That sounds awesome! I've travelled some of that route in a cage/bus. It's really gorgeous. I hope you get some takers.

Nicaragua is a blossoming country. Don't be put off by what you've heard about Managua. It is a little rough in spots. The rest of the country and the people in particular are wonderful.

I might take an issue with the expression that it's the safest country in LA. That might go to Costa Rica.

    Bueno aventura!

Yep it's me. I'm still in Guelph but travel to central america and ride in the winters.

I really want to do this ride that Sal and Jon have put togeher. These guys are seriously fun :D I mean surfing down the side if a volcano.... I've had a lot of fun bragging about that one. Scared the **** out of me . Right now my wife is giving me the gears about this trip. Something about taking to much time off but if even one of you guys agrees to come down then that would seal it for me and I could go for sure. 8-[

Ticket is purchased. I'm going for sure.....

Any other takers? This is going to be epic!

This is an oportunity to have an adventure without a lot of planning. Essentially all you need to do is show up with a helmet and boots. Everything else is taken care of. 7 days of something completely different.

I would have jumped on this in a hear beat but I'm out of country at that time in June. Any chance this could be scheduled to run any time in Jan - Mar?

    Hello Everyone!

I thought it was time to create an account and start participating on this forum.
After talking with Neil (one of the admins of this sites) we decided that it would be best if I started as a corporate sponsor.

I will start by introducing myself. My name is Salvador and I go by the user name salcar in other motorcycle forums. I'm fairly active on advrider and on the horizonsunlimited website. My house in Nicaragua is listed on both website as a place where motorcycle travelers can stay for free if they are crossing the continent by bike. We have hosted several dozen of riders of the past years.

I'm one of owners of NICAMOTO. I started the company at the end of 2007 with the help of JD and a couple other advriders.
I had just finished traveling around Latin America (20 countries, 55,000 Kms, 12 months) and I wanted to get more involved in the motorcycle world. At the time there were no other motorcycle rental services in Nicaragua. I spent a year setting up the business and traveling around the country figuring out the best routes for tours. After that year, I went to live in Switzerland where I got a proper corporate job.

Since then we have been buying more motorcycles (total of 11 now). Last year I quit my job in Switzerland to backpack around Asia for 6 months and then I crossed Africa two-up with my girlfriend on a F800GS. We rode from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt. We did 10 countries, 20,000 Kms in approximately 6 months. After the Africa trip I went back to South Africa where I did my certification as a off-road motorcycle instructor.

Now, I am back with NICAMOTO where I'm planning to ramp up the tours and expeditions around Nicaragua and Central America. I'll also be providing off-road courses for those of you that want to improve your off-road riding skills.

I thought I should share a few pictures of the Coast to Coast tour that we did in June. Also, I wanted to let you know that if there are enough people interested we can do this tour again in February. Please keep in mind that this is more of an expedition than a tour. It requires for you to be physically fit, have good off-road skills and be aware that we will be in very remote regions of the country. If case of an emergency we will be far away for any hospital and thus you have to ride carefully and be prepared to endure pain

However, for those of you that are seeking less adventure and more fun we have other tours for you :D

Here are some of the pics of the coast to coast tour:

Arriving in Waspam by airplane. Note the dirt runaway...

The typical dirt road in the Atlantic coast. For the most part hardpacked but with a lot of pot holes and washboards.

Typical indigenous house in the Atlantic coast.

Gold processing plant. The second largest one in Bonanza.

Riding across the Bosawas Reserve. The largest tropical forest in the world north of the Amazon.

Riding up in the pacific mountains and around coffee plantations.

During this tour we ended up meeting with other motorcycle travelers going from Canada to Argentina.

Canon the Somoto where the Rio Coco is born.

If you are interested in joining the next coast to coast expedition then sign up to receive additional details here

I have created a thread where we can discuss other tour/expedition options: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=20557

All the best and ride safe!
    Salvador
