    Hi Folks

To celebrate/commemorate the long production run of the klr that ended in 2018 ....
Over on ADV some canucks are shipping doohickey wrenches and a log book to Texas with a plan to start a "ADV doohickey tamer" relay.

The idea is to relay ride the infamous tools coast to coast.... slowly climbing northward with each north American wide pass. Riding comradery being the intent by handing off the tools and logbook in relay /photo op style to another klr rider in your adjacent province or state . Besides signing up and riding your KLR as part of the relay ...we are hoping there will be photos taken of the exchange and posted up on both the local dual sport sites and ADVrider KLR only thread.
To participate in the relay shoot me a message either here or on ADV {same user name} to be put on the relay list for your area ....To know when the "ADV doohickey tamer" is getting close and /for tracking it... I will be maintaining a simple map of North America showing the tamer's geographic whereabouts/travels as they happen on the info link below:

Please see Feb 18th update post below to view relay map or sign up ....

    best regards

    Bill

That's a fun & practical idea for all KLR owners Bill. Mine is already done but otherwise I'd get in. Please do share the photos here. Thanks

Looks like your KLR predates mine, I have a 2001 model (army green & silver). What year is it?

    Hi Michel

Many folks that have signed up { myself for N.B.} already have the doo completed... using the tools is just an extra function that can be performed while the tools travel North America. Meeting riders in neighboring states and provinces with a handshake/photo op is the biggest intent.

My Bike is a 1998 and goes pretty steady all season. For some extra adventure i have been using it to find TCAT replacement routes {from Fredericton NB to Sydney Cape Breton} for the Translab highway that will be paved in its entirety soon. For anyone bored out of their mind from ice on the roads / lack of riding... HERE is the last Nova Scotia TCAT scouting in August.

oh almost forgot....here is a couple of pics of the dookickey tamer relay tube that was shipped to Texas on Tuesday.. the wrench will be mounted externally to the top where the T bolt is. It should be noted that the only criteria for the build was lots of attachment points and rubber skids so a few top boxes would be protected..:p

The plaque is attached to the base using KLR intake valves.. the tube gasketed cover is held tight with the KLR decompression unit transformed into a hand screw..

Thanks.... Yes ..i purposely wrapped the lid and the decompression handle separately so it wouldn't be put in one of the wicker baskets the b squad uses for un-identified vessels / containers... looks like it went from NY to Hodgkins, Illinois today so i guess they are not "scared" of it. ;)

    Cheers

Hey all! I’m already signed up for the rally on ADV. You don’t necessarily need to do the upgrade to participate. As was mentioned, I’m doing mainly as a way to participate in the history and comraderie of meeting other KLR owners. It’s going to be an exciting thing and awesome photo op.

    HI Folks

Ontario is huge and full of roaming KLR 650's .... We now have an interactive site page dedicated to tracking the ADV doohickey tamer relay which is up and running .

The North American wide map /link is showing who is signed up so far... along with a sign up icon and back ground info : LIVE MAP HERE .The Relay route is just leaving Texas heading west into New Mexico . We are hoping to draw connector lines showing the relay travels soon .

    Hi Folks
The doohickey tamer had moved around Texas and is now in New Mexico.. The big Texan got attached to the relay tube,.. but ended up handing off to the Las Cruces NM rider.
