has anyone ridden the trail (hydro line) in Ardbeg north of Parry Sound? I know it is popular with 4x4 clubs just not sure if there are deep water crossings.

I've ridden that trail a couple of times. I've done from hwy 124 up to Ardbeg and the section over to hwy 69. Haven't ridden north of Ardbeg. Don't recall any significant water crossings.

V-Stromable? Or would a KLR be required?

A KLR with off-road tires would work. This pic is from 2009. Lots of rocks, with some water in the low spots.

As long as there is no deep water. After all this is Ontario so water is to be expected. Just looking into riding it before the bugs come out.

There are no impassible sections that you need to worry about. It's a nice ride.

Great to know Brian. Now is there anyone up that way that can let me know if the snow is gone by May 8 weekend.

It's been along time since I've ridden those hydro lines. They are rideable to the north of Ardbeg for a considerable distance. Going north you will have to cross railway tracks, then the South Magnetewan River. This crossing will likely be too deep in May. If you make it past that the trail used to dead-end at the North Magnetewan River, but one other member here (Xhumeka) says there are options to cross.

    Please post a RR afterwards.

I wouldn't mind riding the section north of Ardbeg sometime. Actually it's been on my to do list for a while. A couple maps show access at the north end to hwy 69 via Harris Lake Rd.

I'm organizing a ride in London on May 7 so the 8th is out for me. I think this early in the season the trail will be a lot tougher, with more water and mud than later in the season.

I'm sure the trail will be more tough. Last year on our early spring ride we got into deep snow and it was past the turn around point. I'll be keeping an eye on weather and adjust accordingly. The ride is actually May 7-8 camping on the trial.

Hey Brian. It looks like the north section eventually comes out to Harris Lake rd then to Hwy 69. I was just talking to a girl who said I would have to cross the Magnettawan but Google Earth doesn't indicate that.

If you look at Google Earth, just north of where the railway line intersects the powerline you can see the river. It looks like a pretty good size, but really it's hard to know if its crossable unless you're there. That would be a good crossing to try with the bike on an inner tube.

Hey Guys, I'm interested in riding the Ardbeg area. I know a little (very little) about the main route north of town (off Clear lake road). Looking for any and all info I can get my hands on.
Brian you mentioned you've ridden from 124 and 69 over. Were these on pavement, dirt roads, trails. Access points? Are you (or anyone else) able to shed some light?

At the end of the day will go with whatever info I have, quite happy to do the trip as an exploratory venture :) Still working on a date(s).

The Mag has a dedicated snowmobile bridge, not sure how it compares to your proposed route but if you checked out a OFSC trail map it might help. When I crossed it north of Ardbeg years ago there was no way a motorcycle could ford that river.

Basically everything is snowmobile trail. Mostly rough trail and fairly challenging. The best resource for trail info is the OFSC trail map, http://ofsc.mapbase.ca/viewer/ . It'll route and access info.
