Thanks guys. I have thought all along that some of the decisions made at those discussions were already pre made, and what was being presented was just going thru the motions. All is not lost by the sounds of it. We have been recognised and may now have a say in other more important areas (forests) when the time comes.
Good work Ken, sorry about the Volvo. Hey, I want the rims for the 850 !

I was very surprise at this meeting today. It's the first time I ever seen this council agree on something together. I believe we haven't lost hope yet. We need to get on this advisory committee if were going to make a difference.

Hey Ken I would like to be on this advisory committee if possible to represent the OFTR and maybe we can get one of ODSC members to write a letter requesting to be on the committee to represent the ODSC. Then we can have 2 people representing our sport but from 2 different organization. I am just thinking out loud.

    Thanks,
    Connie

If we can get a voice on the committee at least we can work from the inside out as oppose to the outside in. We may not get our way and Ken is right we need to pick our battles with care so as not to polarize things more but we still need to be on the inside. Yes we will be able to access the Somerville tract and maybe we can get enough help to get us on the VRTC but that is going to take some strategy on our part...as mentioned in the members forum.
We must get others to advocate on our behalf!!!!! and that will take effort from all of us.... see members forum.

The Editorial in the same paper is in favour of Motorized use on the VRTC because of the ECONOMIC benefits.
quote "The fact is the majority of tourists who come to use the trails will be motorized. The non-motorized users will be primarily local residents enjoying local amenities."

As council DOES take Economic impact seriously WE need to focus ourselvse on this. By showing the impact we can/do have we need to get the Chambers of Commerce and other Businesses, groups on our side to litterally push our fight forward.
Ken; I know you do not want to divide the green plate from the blue plate but for the VRTC the blue plate gives us "legal" access to these towns that so want our Business (something the ATV'ers don't have). If blue plate motorcycles can gain access to the VRTC it will in the future open the road to green plate, especiallly if we can get the same provisions in the ORVA as ATV's have. We need to compromise today and I see this as a way to open the door and its all based on Economic benefits with the help from other groups/org's pushing our cause.
After all we are the only GROUP that can get along with everyone else.

Letter officially recieved at Council Meeting

Our letter of February 20th, personally adressed and sent to all 16 councillors and the mayor was "Officially" read and received into the minutes of the March 28th CKL council meeting.

This is important. They must now consider the OFTR in all dealings regarding the TMP. The next step for them is to establish a committee.

Why are we always refering to ATV's?

We ride DUAL sport bikes, we can legally ride on public roads or on unasumed roads or abadone goverment trails were motorize vehicle permited.

We are not ATV operator. an ATV cannot legally ride on the hiway or paved road. Shoulders only to get to and from approved trail.

Just asking, because it don't make sense.

    Follow up on the VRTC....

A trail bylaw for the VRTC will be considered at the Community and Emergency Service Committee meeting on Monday Jan 22 '07

    Bylaw options are:
    A) that a fully connected VRTC trail system linking the entire 85km from Betahany to Kinmount be endorsed including the recommendation of the Trails Advisory Committee to permit limited urban road access by All Terrain Vehicles.

    B) That a disconnected VRTC trail system be endorsed at this time whereby disconnects would exist in the urban areas of Lindsay and Fenelon Falls, and that the recommendation of the Trails Master Plan in relation to the regulations of the VRTC be endorsed.

    C) Council to identify specific requirements for the Trail By-law.

    _________________________________________________________

Option A would be the best for ORV users by providing a continues 85km link which does not exist now...and since sled traffic is next to nil this year tourisim $$$$ generated by ORV's should be taken into account...I would hopes.
By creating the link now and IF motorcycles get allowed (green/blue plated) then maybe you could ride from the Ganny to Haliburton...legally on a green plate :D Tourisim $$$$$$$ would be great, but is foresight enough?

I imagine that what the committee recommends will go to Council for final approval.

To further update my last post

The Community Services Committee rejected the trail Advisory Committee's prefered choice being option A

The Committee will recommend to Council that the trail be disconnected in Fenelon and Lindsay for Motorized uses....Some people don't like the thought of ATVs on pavement, even referring to the ATV owners manuals as saying such....despite Ont. law and what it says. Even the Local Health unit was against it (ATVs using the street....safety...as someone might get hurt :? ...is that not why sled trails are all 50km/h and they still get hurt....guess we should all ski)
One positive is BOTH Chambers of Commerce WANT ATV traffic with-in Lindsay and Fenelon...$$$$$$$$$$.

Interesting is we as Dualsporters can bring in the $$$$$$ by allowing us on the trail and since we are plated for the Highways under the HTA it only makes sense....as we do travel into towns for gas food accommodation etc, but we are stigmatized with the reckless kid on a Motocross bike

I suggest getting a list of all the members with these details:

First name, age, vocation/education and Marital Status, other clubs/affiliations etc.

We now have several hundred members and this list could be presented when dealing with these groups. It should help to change perceptions.

For example, my data would be:

Brian, 39, Business Owner/Investor, High School/some College, Single, Local Optimist Club(12 years)- Board of Directors

I've ridden with quite a few members of this club - none of which would I describe as reckless or irresponsible.
If we want to change perceptions, we actually have to show and educate people who we really are, as opposed to their preconceptions.

    Further update:

Council passed a bylaw allowing ATVs to travel through Fenelon Falls in order to link the Rail line. Same can not be said for Lindsay...yet??
This allows ATVs to travel from north end Lindsay to Haliburton..Legally starting March 1 '07.

This Council seems much more open to motorized users and the $$$$ that come with it.
Good to time for us to start a lobby effort and at least get a foot in the door. ie. allow blue plated motorcycles to travel the line, and since we CAN travel any of the roads LEGALLY......
