I am thinking of doing a five day ride from my house to the north and back. I will be riding my KLX 250. I want this to be a relaxing ride and the level of difficulty will depend on whether I am riding alone or not. I will be using Motels, as my level of desire to sleep on the ground is depleting rapidly as my age increases. Time line is possibly the second or third week of July and I would be starting on a Wednesday, home on Sunday.
I thought the first day would end somewhere near Huntsville taking mostly back roads to get there. Day two would see the Seguin trail and the Old Nip road ending near Bonfield or Mattawa. Day three possibly passing through the V-Muts trails and then ending somewhere near North Bay. Day four would include the rail trail from Espanola to Little Current and then cruise Manitoulin Island. And the last day catch the ferry and then head home.
As you see this is a rough outline but a good place to start. If any of you feel the need to offer suggestions or insights feel free for I have never planned a ride like this before. I have read many posts about different parts of this ride and am learning where I can and cannot go.
I know it's early but it is time to start planning so if anyone is interested in joining me please speak up. I am not sure if there is a gathering at the Mohawk this coming Wednesday but if there is I will be there if anyone would like to discuss this ride.
    Thanks
    Rick

Rick - there is a meeting next Wednesday at the Mohawk Inn. I'll be there and could be interested in your ride. We did it in the opposite direction a few years back and wouldn't mind trying it again.

I usually stay in motels for this type of trip but the Bancroft motels are so expensive that I've just booked a couple of nights in early May at L'Amable for $46 on AirBnB instead of $100+ right in Bancroft. Worth checking out the savings for your trip.

Great ride! Yawny and I did a similar ride to that a couple of years ago. Lots of great trails and logging roads. Old Nip can be a little nasty in places from my experience, lots of great trails heading that way though. We headed north of North bay over to capreol and back south down to Espanola. The rail trail was not technical but great views! I road it by myself and really enjoyed it.

Sounds good guys. I will be at the Mohawk next week so if anyone else is interested we can talk then or think about it and get back to me. See you there Bob.
John in Kincardine. It would be great if you could go along. Give it some thought and we can talk soon.
And the other John. I know that you and Yawny and another guy did a similar ride. I read your posts back then and reread them again lately. I think I will bypass the sections that almost ruined your last ride. A little too extreme for me but made for some good reading. Your welcome to join me if you would like to do it again.
    Thanks
    Rick

That would be great Henry. You should try to make the next Wednesday meeting at the Mohawk. We could meet in Woodstock and ride up together if you want. I will probably be eating supper there. Maybe leave Woodstock around 5:00. It's about an hour to the restaurant.

Sorry to eavesdrop, but if I can suggest a couple small tweaks to your route near Sudbury based on Bob's trip map from his opposite direction trip:
-from Nelson Lake there is a trail west that comes out on Nickel Offset road, about 30-40 minutes of nice bush road instead of driving the back highways of Sudbury. Couple water crossings. Then you can proceed west again on highway 144 to reach Ministic Lake road.
-instead of taking 144 all the way to Cartier and doubling back to hit Ministic Lake road, turn off 144 at Windy Lake and take Old Cartier Road to get to Ministic Lake road...it's a few km of scenic twisty hard surface that is really nice. There are some nice trails in towards Fox Lake if you want to do a side loop

    Rick,
I would be interested in your ride. I just bought a DR650 with the intent of doing that type of ride. If you did it going up the Bruce first, it may be better if John and Phil are interested (pick up on the way). I am good for 2nd or 3rd week in July. I am south of London.

Its probably going to be a lot of back roads with some trails. I would think that a 5 is a resonable estimate. I dont mind water but I don't like mud.

No you don't. I am a member and started this thread so you can join the conversation and the ride if you want to.

Just so you know. I will be doing this ride from maps. I do have a gps but I don't have the skills to lay out a ride and put the tracks on it. I will know where I want to go because I am a planner but it will be a bit of seat of the pants navigating.
I also want to get together with the people that are interested in riding with me as soon as possible. There are things we need to discuss as a group. I am sure some of you will have some good ideas of where to go or what you might like to see. Besides, the sooner reservations are made the better.
Probably starting the ride on July 5th, a Wednesday. Back home on Sunday.

Ok. After discussions with family on the weekend I am starting my ride on Wednesday July 12th. Family plans got the first week.
This is for sure. I have started booking motels for six riders so if you want to join in, there is room and I wouldn't mind some company. So give it some thought and let me know if your interested. When ready, we will get together in the next couple of weeks to discuss ideas.
So far the first night is in Huntsville, secound is Bonfield.
