Looking to explore the area north of Sudbury and Espanola this year. I hear there are a ton of access roads and trails up there. If anyone wants to share GPS files or join me for an adventure exploration ride, let me know!

I will take a look around see if I can find some files from last year. Great trails and logging type roads between there and north bay. I know I deleted some files by mistake after last year's ride so I am not sure what all I have.

I've only been there once (on our Manitoulin-Sudbury Trip) and don't really much about the area, but we did ride some decent DS trails (as well as lot's of pavement).

The relevent DS bits are in the attached GPX file.

If you go to the "Tracks and Routes" section on this forum and look for "Some Northern Tracks", you will find tracks which I have ridden north from Capreol along the Wanapitei river. It's some of the most scenic ridding in Ontario and just a blast as well.

Thanks for the file Bob. Any idea how long a run it is from Hwy# 17 to Long Lake Rapids and back?

Hardy, I did the river run from Capreol to Shining Tree and back last Spring. It is a good ride!

Here's the original tracklog with the timestamps so you can check time/speed/distance for the Sudbury area part of the ride. (Use Mapsource/Track properties/highlight trackpoints/etc).

The entire tracklog was about 1800Km over 4 days of riding.

    Thanks Bob!
I'll be riding my KTM 525EXC with full knobbies and I'd recommend similar equipment. You never know what you might get into up there! I'm assuming gas can be challenging, so anyone that wants to join will need a good size tank, or be able to carry extra fuel.

You should get in touch with dubbs (Jim Walback), who now lives in Elliot Lake. Millions of miles of trails there and he is dying for riding buddies. I plan on going up there again this summer......

I've had a few good rides between Sudbury and Timmins with the last being in 2012. That last trip was over 4 days with 2 nights in Shining Tree. Lots of great trails all the way up and back.

I'd be interested in going again!

I would definitely be interested in joining you! I live about an hour west of that area. What dates do you have in mind?

Last year I stayed at Jims house, as there was just me. Not sure what will happen this year if a gang shows up. Probably motels or something.

I'm looking at organizing a ride up Portelance Road to Shining Tree and back, probably late May or early June. A bunch of us did this run last year, we met at Rocky's Lake Wanapitei. It's a good easy ride to get the cobwebs out, all gravel with a few muddy sections. There could be a couple water crossings on the road depending on how high the river is.

I know anything is possible but what would be your best guess at depth/length of the water hazzards?
