What's the best way to get started near GTA?

...just spent the evening making a set of tires, curious if there are good places to go out riding with others (I'd prefer not to be going out solo on the ice for the first time)....

Any input/direction would be much appreciated!

I believe the OCMC has some events organised at the East end, on Skugog or Rice lake. Check them out...

Yes OCMC has a series to race in, but you WILL need safety equipment to ride with them. YOU MUST HAVE TETHER, AND GUARDS. While I don't recommend riding without either At the very least put a tether on your bike.

Anyone in the GTA that goes recreationally? I'm not keen on racing not having ever tried the whole thing. If you mess around on a local lake, pond or trails and would care to show a newb what's what it's would be great to hook up.

I would be interested, though the ice is to thin due to the warm weather on most nearby lakes. Pretty much all the trails are closed around the GTA on the different tracts. Though some no winter maintenance side roads you can ride on. To ride fairly unrestricted you have to find crown or private land. Crown land is fairly north and the snow would be to deep. Though one solution would be to ride on shore ice where they allow car access on the beach. You are not breaking any regulations and it can be challenging. Plus georgian bay/lake huron is not to far. Another solution would be to get a trials bike to hack around on in industrial areas/parking lots.

I haven't really done any ice riding myself at least on a motorcycle, but you see quite a few guys on Cook's Bay. It's a fairly safe place if you wanted to go Mess Around by yourself.

@GQelements Did you manage to find someplace to ride in the GTA?

I switched my focus from ICE to Winter TRAIL riding... It didn't require a full set of specialized tires to be and seemed less like NASCAR.

I picked up a pack of AMA #8 crews and moderately studded up front and rear (one stud per knob, except center of the rear where I used two), without even taking the tire off (but using Weatherproof Cement to better set the short 1/2" screws).

Having tons of fun now (pm me if you want to go out together):
