    Hi All,

I got a new bike over the winter and i'd love to find somewhere near Toronto where i can just go and get a better feel for it. I know this question has probably been asked a million times, but i'm not necessarily looking for trails or a large area: even just a small field where i can run a few practice / balance drills would be ok. The new bike is green plated unfortunately, so any old dirt road won't work this time...Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Try Simcoe County forest or The Ganaraska forest. Both are just over 1 hour from where you live. You`ll have to wait until they open up, as both close down during the winter season.

Baxter Simcoe County Forest is the closest of the Simcoe County forests from the south.

You are welcome to pop up to my place. I'm just 20 minutes north of barrie and have property and a field to play around in. There is also some forest access locally.

FYI, SCR is limiting membership this year, and may not take any new members

Newtonville is probable the closest place you can ride without worry that I know of until the Ganni opens May 1st. I went to there twice this year so far and both times there was quite a few people out considering the time of year. Bit muddy but lots of room to ride and good, varied terrain. Im not sure whats going on with Raglan (north Oshawa) these days as I'm just getting back into dirt bikes but I see a lot of people riding there online. Another close place is the Pickering pit's. I never knew of this place but there is a letter online from the cops saying that they wont tolerate any more riding there.

I ride the area around Raglan Pits often. People still ride the pit but if you are caught the Durham Police will likely charge you as it is posted " no trespassing". Having said that there are tons on legal places to ride on unimproved public roads in that area. Don't think you would get a hassle with a green plate if you have insurance. I have never been pulled over up there but see the police quite often.
