    Everyone-

Please take a few minutes to complete this survey(see below). This is some early stage work as part of some exciting new provincial initiatives that the OFTR will be participating in over the next few years!
The provincial goverment sees that we and other trail users and trail builders bring real value to this province.

    Let's show them how much!

Please take some time in the next week or two, as this one is on a tight timeline.

    Thanks,

    Brian Knechtel

Study of the Economic Impacts and Other Benefits of Trails in Ontario
A confidential survey by SPR Associates of Toronto
for the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    January 30, 2015

    Dear Ontario Trail User/Resident:

Improving the quality of life for Ontarians: In Ontario, all levels of government and not-for-profit trail organizations maintain a system of over 80,000 kilometres of trails for the enjoyment of Ontario residents and visitors. These trails are used for walking/hiking, jogging, cycling (on and off-road), mountain biking, horseback riding, off-road motorcycling, snowmobiling, ATVing, canoeing/kayaking, 4x4 use and other activities. Trails are located in urban, suburban, rural and remote areas across Ontario.

The Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport has retained SPR Associates to conduct a confidential province-wide survey of trail users (and non-users) to aid the development of trails and assess their contribution to Ontario's tourism and recreation sectors and the economy generally, and to assess the impacts of trail use on individuals' health.

You are invited to participate in this survey because you have been identified as a trail user by a trail organization, or as a customer for trail-related information, or as part of the general Ontario population. Key topics covered in the survey include use of trails -- the number and duration of trail trips, trail-related expenses, reasons for using (or not using) trails, your satisfaction with trails, available trail information and related topics.

Timing: The survey should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. As the study is facing a tight timeline, your response to the survey by February 21, 2015 would be greatly appreciated.
Confidentiality: All of your responses will be kept strictly confidential -- no individual response will be revealed and all survey findings will be reported in summary form in the study report.

Why is this survey important to you? The Province of Ontario wants to ensure that all Ontarians have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of trails. Your answers to the survey questions will be extremely beneficial in helping to shape the future of trails in Ontario.

If you have any questions about the overall study, please contact Mir Nazmul Islam, Sport, Recreation & Community Programs Division, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MirNazmul.Islam@ontario.ca). If you have any questions about the survey or the on-line process, feel free to contact me at: ted.harvey@spr.ca .

Password: At the beginning of the survey, you will be asked to provide the following password to authenticate your invitation to the survey (please be sure to enter the password exactly as shown below):

    Your password is: OFTR15

The survey can be accessed at the following web-link:

Thank you, I look forward to your response,

    Dr. Ted Harvey
    Study Director

But, what about that MCC survey in the OFTR Newsletter? They want the responses by Jan. 31. They sent the newsletter today (Feb. 2).
