Looks like we'll be getting in around 2:00 p.m.
Expect a ticket for not having either in MI.
Similar to KTMRIDR's 'Reality Check' , a stock KTM 300 is pretty darn quiet - but no Spark Arrestor!
I'm sure the thought of 'sparks' is just a red herring - the real issue is noise and the assumption is that Spark arrestors will be quieter.
Am I correct?
I found an FMF Q-series muffler (with spark arrestor) for my Daughters RM85, and it's great, if a little long and ugly.
Now it's louder from the expansion chamber than the muffler.
The spark arrestor does nothing for sound reduction, but it is a valid concern since it reduces the chance of hot carbon bits blowing out of the exhaust. Noise is the driving factor for sure.
is there an update on spec,s for the new rules ?? Fabing a screen is easy, but will it meet the regs.
I don't think making your own screen will do. I know its the same thing but the enforcement people enforcing it are not mechanics and won't know what they are looking at. I would think they would look for the stamp that comes on the muffler. I think it says U.S approved spark arrestor or something like that.
Or you can try make your own screen and let us all know if you get a ticket. Take one for the team! LOL =D>
