This ride was discussed in Loop Du Jour thread . Not sure how to arrange a start location? If you ride all the way to Sudbury in 2 days how do you get back?

One idea is to park/camp centraly and work out a big loop in each direction.

My buddy Martin and I are going exploring Saturday . I might ride some trails around the city dump where the connection from Redbridge would come.

Then I'll cross over to Field and ride to Pike Lake Road and look for a trail north to avoid Hwy 64 transit.

I'm sure there is no shortage of nice camping spots in that central area.

Today Martin and I found "the key" connection to the run. We rode a 210 km ride which we though was going to be so-so but turned out to be a fantastic ride.We hit a section of storm trashed trail from hell.
We lugged our bike over the first batch of huge aspen only to run into one after another. I had a 6" folding saw so we even cut a bush trail around one batch. We finally thought we were clear and we hit the doozie of them all. We felt defeated.
Well if we didn't hear ATV's coming. Then I could hear "Stop! There's some kids on dirt bikes." Well they fired up a chainsaw and cut through the mess. They were going fishing .

We swapped bikes so I tried the XR650 heading north of Field. We were trying to get from McLaren Road to Pike Lake. The route would go the other direction though. We had seen a turn-off last year but turns out there was 3 of them.
We had to call it a day part way down #1 as the tree incident had got the best of us. Headed back to Hwy 11 North and home.

I saw the old rail bed at Crystal Falls which might go all the way to Field eliminating some tarmac for the hardcore guys. Blue line on the pic. Red line was todays ride.Green line is gravel transit from VMUTS territory. Yellow is the Pike Lake run.
The Trans-Canada symbol is where Tilden Lake is.

About a week ago we had a severe storm.

I'm thinking this route of mine might take more than 2 days, might have to book some time off in early September if I decide to try it.

    Looks awesome guys!
If by the end you have a complete gbd file - would love a copy.

Getting back from Sudbury? Why not try and come down the Bruce pennisula and across?
Or just do the same route backwards :) !

OK I'll post when its done. I'm was eyeing parking places yesterday so I'll have to mark them as waypoints, as well as gas stop options and confectionary/food .I thought it might be handy to mark every 50 km as a waypoint as well, a good reminder for keeping track of gas. Coming back from Sudbury would be fine, as you could almost do a totally different trail. It could do the loop around Lake Wanapitei. This would take several days unless you're a hardcore P2D dude or just plain crazy. There are a few camps/lodges in the middle area worth posting Emerald Lake Camp up Hwy 805 http://www.emeraldlakecamp.ca/ . Pine Falls Lodge http://pinefallslodge.ca/Home_.html and lastly Sportsmans Lodge http://sportsmanslodge.net/ SML has a Yuotube review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVjmddXEPFo

This is GREAT....I'd love to ride Mattawa to Suds in one shot.....P2D style for sure =D>

You could then ride to Shinning Tree for a FULL 2 dayer...yep yep yep :D

It all comes down to gas stops/options.

    Fall it is

Well the schedule at work was posted Monday and they mistaskenly had me marked "OFF " on Friday so I just went along with it and kept my mouth shut. That means I'm going back to Pike Lake area tomorrow to explore the last piece of the puzzle.

I'll bring the GoPro again .Last time we had it but thought it was filming when it wasn't so we missed my wipe-out into the mud puddle.

I was talking to co-worker Mad Trapper and he said there's a few trails to get from behind Trout Creek to Boulter . This means one could ride from way south like Sundridge to Mattawa on gravel and trail ! I rode the area a bit on my XR200 back in the late 80's, found a neat trail that we later went mountain biking on several times.

Yahoo!!! We found the trail. Not without a dramatic start to the trip. First as we're ready to leave my driveway Martin's clutch cable snaps. No dealers have one in stock locally, so we decided to throw the bikes into my trailer and get the back-up
TW 200 set-up for Martin's wife. We parked in Field. Heading down Pike Lake road the TW's chain falls off. Road side fix requiring tools, rocks, wood etc-good to go!

What a great trail it is too. One of my favorites so far. We rode up to Beaverland and did Mclaren again. I raced these roads in performance rallies in the 80's and now they're grown in ATV trails!

We rode the rail bed from Field towards Crystal Falls and its really cool as it goes beside the winding Sturgeon river. Bonus!

The bridge at Crystal Falls which needs to be crossed for this route is going to under construction in a couple of weeks. It may be only passable on weekends and after hours.

Now to do a test run from the start soon. Going on a roadtrip to Sudbury tomorrow, Royal ( new chain and sprockets), Ramakko's ( Backroads Mapbook, one man tent ) Finn store ( salmiakkii )
