hey, I tried to vote for the second time from work, on a separate workstation, and I guess it's the same ISP, wouldn't let me vote off another machine...is that normal? At least it's not even a close call right now. Let's hope they don't just chuck the result because it's so one sided in our favour. I hope someone on our side is watching these results.

    my comments sent

Why is alright to pave over the GTA and surrounding farm/forest lands next to cities all in the name of development so more people can have more places to live/work and that is a-okay. People may quietly complain but $$$$ rule the world.
Yet run a ORV through a forest and all HELL breaks loose. The amount of so called damage is extremely minimal in comparison to the lands that are being paved over for development. I do not see trees dying cause of ORV use no more than I see trees dying from hiking/sking trails.
Make any TRAIL in the forest, add users and you will get environmental damage period!!
Once the organic ground cover is removed the trail will erode to some extent. Building PROPER trails goes a long ways to minimizing damage, along with regular maintenance.
Better cooperation among ALL user groups is a MUST. And that means any INDIVIDUALS need to join a recognized user group and look at the BIG picture...not just the nimby picture. Ontario Trails Council is a good start for ones search of Organizations.
As much as we pave over the GTA and areas we all need to recreate in our own ways....after all this is a FREE country is it not...learn to cooperate and we ALL benefit.
Working together goes a lot further.
Enough of this "me" attitude....work together!!

Some of the comments in that link you provided are just plain IGNORANT and nerrow minded. My blood boils when I read them.

"Get your act together, dirt bikers and ATVers...do something productive with your lives instead of roaring around without purpose"

"Dirt bikes and ATVs are not compatible with natural systems and anyone who
is serious about protecting an area should keep them out.
    David Suzuki"

Damn that Suzuki guy ....Lets all go to the stone age (and with a name like that-Irony)

Yeah, lots of negative comments in there.
I'll be posting mine later today...we should all have our say.
Some goods points to touch on could be:

The family aspect of trail riding
    Belonging to an organized club
Spending money locally while using the forest
Our "trail clean up days", which have included Ganaraska, Simcoe County and St. Williams

Please, lets try to preserve what we have left and find another form of activity to occupy extra hours of time for these people...mentoring children, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, volunteer work, picking up garbage on road sides, etc.

I guess they want me to sell my bike and pick up roadside garbage, I have likely spent more time cleaning up trails then them.

    Husky FOR SALE,,, yea right[/u]

A Northumberland Forest video of a Motorcycle TRAIL..humm can hardly see the trail it is so TINY
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=UHdBUABf7Yk&feature=related

Another reason to put put down the fireroads etc as no one sees you in the TRAILS (Greenies likely could not find it  )but they sure see you on the straight and wide roads.

I once read that the only civilization which had NO discernable impact on the natural world was that of the American Indians.

So, if David Suzuki were supreme ruller, would he reduce the population of Canada back to 10,000 people living in wood shelters and forraging for food? Whom would he sell his books to, and who would watch his television programs?

I want to save the planet. I really do. But I feel powerless. David Suzuki has so much ability to get the attention of vast amounts of citizenry... and he spends his time trying to save the humped back blue spotted horned tree toads.

Why doesn't he instead do a flyover of Alberta, show the gas flares, the tarsands tailings, stripping of millions of acres of top soil to get at the tarsand underneath, etc... Huge portions of Alberta look like a scene out of some post apocolyptic movie. And they're burning huge amounts of natural gas just to crack the oil out of the sands (good energy after bad).

But most people haven't seen this.

If I want to go to the GTA, why do I have a choice: Spend $40 on a Via rail ticket, or $20 in gas. You can cross all of France on $20! AND do it faster than you could in a car.

Why are people FLYING from Ottawa to Toronto? A train could concievably make the trip in less time than it would take you to get through customs at the airport! And use 1/10th the fuel!

Oh, but the blue spotted toads! Let's focus on them!

And the ATV'ers and Sledders are fat and getting fatter for recreating in this manner
    Lots of ATV hatred.

Gretchen and Vivian must really be missing out on some regular good old fashioned 'love' and 'affection'. There's some serious pent up frustration brewing in those two.

We need to keep them talking, using reason and common sense, it absolutely frustrates them and the more they talk the more foolish they look.

Ms. harris is oft quoted in the local paper and is treated as credible. Should she keep posting hysterical comments council and the public will stop listening.

Bill is VERY right in his comments above.

I see now we are being called THUGS.....hummm :?
And we "rototill" the grounds we cover ....hummm :?

They do love to threaten and call us names......bullies of the sand box I guess we can call them  .

Thank you for all that have been writing comments - they are well written and raise very good points.

It is absolutely paramount that we continue to behave as respectfully as possible, to all involved. Stick to the main issues, avoid getting distracted with verbal mudslinging and hyperbole and focus on productive win-win solutions for everyone. At the same time, we don't have to accept disrespectful or bullying behavior. Ignore the negative behavior and continue to focus our communications to the FAC.

We do have a basic human right to use the forest- as long as we follow our code of conduct.

When is the next FAC meeting?

You know I don't know why we can not get together to have a section of crownland forest designated as motorized vehicle use only. Or isn't that what Ganaraska and North Humberland was?

Start from scratch, or take a section of what we already are using, but stamp it in cold hard ink motorized use only.

If they take away the North Humberland, they will take away Ganni it is only in time this will happen, so why not give us a place that we can make trails and don't tell us to get out?!
