This ride is only for bikes capable of handling 400 series highways but also gravel, dirt and uneven terrain. This is not a motocross event, however, and we will bypass harshest spots.

    Meet spot:

    Saturday, May 9th
8am departure time (if you want to socialize come earlier)
Tim Hortons @ Innisfil Beach Rd. and HWY 400
    2098 Commerce Park Dr., Innisfil
Shell gas station is right next door

We will slab it on 400 to Rosseau where the Old Nipissing Road starts, from then on we will explore the road and potentially do a couple of side trips to see local points of interest (as in ghost towns for example). On our way we'll pass through Magnetawan and Commanda, finally reaching Nipissing.
Coming back, we'll take HWY 11 with a possible side trip if time allows and there's still sun out.

Estimated time required for the ride is 11h (Innisfil to Innisfil).

    What to bring:

hiking shoes, water, energy bar, positive attitude

I have never done this ride, we will possibly get "lost," if that bothers you, please don't come.

In case of bad weather, the ride will be moved to the following Saturday.

I think you'll find the section of the Nipissing Road between Rosseau and hwy 518 to be impassible. It was last time I tried a few years ago. At the very least I would expect you'd spend considerable time making an attempt. From Seguin Falls, hwy 518 the Nippissing Road is good gravel road. North of Magnetawan it turns into single lane gravel road. This is probably the most interesting section.

    Enjoy your ride.

I will second what Brian mentioned. A couple of years ago Yawny, Myself and a third guy road a large chunk of the Nipissing road and there were parts that sucked... a lot... like really sucked.
But there were definitely parts that were good and well worth riding. We left from Perry Sound and rode part of the park to park trial before getting on to the old nip road.
There should be an old thread kicking around from when we did it. I think it had some good shots in it, although a large chunk of the really bad stuff went un-photographed do to not having the energy.

    Stay cool

Brian and John are both correct.

I spent a lot of time riding the area as I have family who live up there.

There is too much swamp and mud/bog between Rosseau and Hwy 518 to get through. Its probably best to catch Old Nipissing Road from Hwy 518. Old Nipissing is just basically a twisty gravel road up to Magnetawan, somewhat boring to ride I find. Another alternative to the Old Nipissing Rd is to head a little more east on Hwy 518 just past Bear Lake to Bourdeau Rd and head north. This road turns into a narrow lane and heads through deep forest. You can eventually cut over to Old Nipissing Rd just south of Magnetawan and continue north from there.

    Enjoy

Did you end up doing the Nipissing Rd ride?
    If yes, any feedback?
    Thanks.

We did it, but had to bypass a bunch of it in three places partly because there was no trail in some places, in others because we were on big bikes with street tires and it was either too wet or in rough condition to continue:

1 -- North of Rosseau to 518 (we didn't bother looking for the trail) as we've read it is impassable. We did part of the Seguin Trail/Park to Park trail instead though.

2 -- Just North of Magnetewan the trail went into a very deep water area... possibly flooded by a beaver dam, impassable to us so we bypasses using Deer Lake Road.

3 -- The area just South of Commanda... I can't remember why we didn't do this part but I think we either had a hard time locating the trail or if we found it, it might have looked to muddy to attempt. We had all big bikes and inappropriate tires, so we couldn't tackle anything crazy. We bypassed using Rye Road.

Looks like you still had a great time. Lots of water and mud in the Commanda area. We used to Atv up there.

I just posted up a gpx track a few weeks back from a ride where I rode up Bourdeau Rd and Harrison Lk Rd. From here I went right on Royston Rd and up on Starrat Rd to Midlothiam Rd which than will take you over to Old Nippising Rd and into Magnetewan (good place to gas up and eat).

At the corners of Harrison Lk Rd and Royston Rd if you head immediately west instead of turning right on Royston there is a trail which I haven't had the time to explore. I saw a group of atv riders jump on to that trail and according to BRMP it will take you to Side Rd 10 & 11 and eventually over to Old Nippising Rd. If my memory serves me correctly I tried that trial many years back and could not get through because of heavy bog at which point I turned back.

I'm planning on going back up there on the Labour Day weekend (weather permitting) to explore some of those trails.

Hardy, I could likely join you, help pull you out of the mud, etc... let me know which day you plan on exploring and I will meet you up there.
