I am in the early stages of setting up a Park to Park ride for the Labor Day long weekend. There was some interest on the IBAR Ontario Facebook page so I figured I would post it here as well.

Likely going to be an early-Saturday morning departure from the western end of the trail - riding to Algonquin Park - camp Saturday night - head home Sunday.

    Thoughts?

Depending on family commitments for that weekend, I am interested in both the ride and camping. I've got a few friends who would also likely join. Coming from Toronto, I'd want to drive/trailer to the start/finish spot so I'll have to figure out a parking solution to leave my suv and trailer while we are away - any suggestions?

Well, alon, there appears to be a Walmart in Parry Sound - might be able to use that as a parking area for the weekend. I know that as a rule Walmart is okay with overnight RV / camper parking in their lots, so it might be worth a call to the manager of that location 705 746 1573

I myself will likely leave Ottawa around 3:00pm Friday afternoon, ride to Killbear and camp that night, then head out to ride the trail to Algonquin Park on Saturday morning - camping in Algonquin Saturday night - and heading home on Sunday.

I will call Killbear today and enquire about reserving camping spots - I will post more info as soon as I have it.

So you're riding from Ottawa to Killbear, staying in Killbear one night and then riding the park to park into Algonquin area, staying there one night and then riding home from there?

I misread your original post thinking that you were going to ride the park to park both ways which is better for me given that I don't want to ride my little bike all the way there and back home. If I trailer there, I need to start and end in the same place. If timing works, I could drive to Killbear early morning to be there and ready to ride with you, ride toward Algonquin area with you and camp that night and the nest morning when you head east to Ottawa, I could run the park to park back west over to my truck and trailer...thoughts? I'm not sure if doing the park to park two days would be good as some have commented to me that it's pretty straight and boring...not sure.

Alon. Just south of Parry Sound the trail crossed at a PetroCanada and Tim Horntons. Lots of ppl start there and you could leave your vehicle there as many do. It would cut out some of the ride back. Don't forget the Park to Park is $25/day trail pass. You would need 2 days.

I'm really sorry guys, but I don't think I am going to be able to make this ride after all. I just bought a used DR650 that I am riding in the Fundy Adventure Rally the following weekend and I need to focus on preparing for that. If anyone does go ahead with this ride please post here.

Ok, it is really out of my hands now - I cannot do the Park 2 Park ride on the long weekend in September....however, I can do it on the Thanksgiving long weekend...
I realize this is probably a bit of a kick in the 'nads if you were truly planning on doing this ride on the Labor Day weekend alon - and for that I apologize, but I just can't make it work in September.
There are 4 or 5 Ottawa-area guys who are contemplating joining in October, so it could turn into a really fun ride.
Anyhow, sorry for the bail and reschedule - hope some of you can make it work.

No worries - there are plenty of one day or two day ride options for that weekend if I can truly get away. Keep me in mind for thanksgiving weekend; I'll be ready for mud, cold and water :)

Joe will you be doing this ride on your Vstrom? I could likely get away for thanksgiving weekend this year :)

Yes, this will be a Big Ethel ride Mike. I have been ignoring her since I purchased the DR650, and I think she will be due for a good, long run. Besides, the V-Strom is a better pack-mule ;-)

Again, that limited users are organizing a ride expect this thread to be locked shortly. It may be best to connect in other ways.

Maybe I am confused on the rules. Are you not allowed to post rides? It's kind of why I came here.

RR you are member and good to post anywhere about anything.

Limited Users are not allowed to post rides in the Casual Rides section, however they can answer a topic and join in on someone else's ride. The comments above are directed at some recent goings on related to a new Limited User and his postings.

The Adventure Riding section is treated a bit differently. Since most multi-day/long distance big bike rides do not involve local trails, Limited Users are given some latitude here. The idea is that adventure riders are travelling roads and backroads and unlikely to raise concerns regarding private land or sensitive trail areas (this is the general idea based on previous club executive discussions on the subject).

If any club member thinks this should be handled differently, please start a new topic about it in the club business section.

I got you now. Thanks for clearing it up. I hope to post a few rides in both areas when I get back from Overland Expo.
