Protect Our Volunteers is an coalition of Ontario's community service groups including the OFTR and the OFSC. The purpose of Protect Our Volunteers is to petition the Ontario Government to pass appropiate legisalation to shield community volunteers from from exposure to unreasonable claims of liability. Insurance and liability issues are big concerns for off -road motorcyclists. Having legislation to protect clubs and organizers of off-road events, and perhaps land management organizations might make accessing new riding areas easier.

We need everyones support on this. Please visit the Protect Our Volunteers website, http://www.protectourvolunteers.ca/ , and sign the online petition.

    Thanks for your support!

I hate petitions.. but this is straigtforward and gets to the point. People should be responsible for their "OWN" actions. If I ride a bike into a tree thats MY fault, regardless of any log on the trail. If I am in traffic and a car doesn't stop at a stopsign and I have no way to avoid it (close calls but hasn't happend yet) then that shouldn't be my fault. Common sense... There is a global shortage of it.

    I signed.

Please feel free to post the Protect Our Volunteers link, http://www.protectourvolunteers.ca/ , on any appropiate website and pass the link on to your friends. This petition isn't just for trail users or motorcyclists.

    cost reduction

The FMQ http://www.fmq.qc.ca/ has liability insurance for $250 annually for its ~100 clubs with ~13,500 members. The Quebec provincial government has a pool liability insurance program/legislation that limits club liability. Any club of any type pays $250 annually for this coverage. At the January Trails Strategy Workshop for Insurance this exact scenario was recommended to the Government of Ontario by all trail groups as well as legislation limiting liability of volunteer organisations. Currently, Ontario liability exposure can only be reduced by a clubs due diligence to have effective bylaws for club tasks done properly. No insurance protects fools from their mistakes harming others.

I expect the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC) will supply discounted general liability insurance which will cover all club events, locations and activities no matter how minor; this will not insure events with alcohol nor wheel-to-wheel racing though it will cover all rides and bike shows. MCC is also working on inexpensive Directors and Officers insurance for this 2005 season. Such coverages might normally cost the ODSC $1300+ each but MCC's help will reduce these fees substantially.

    Sign the petition, Steven Davies.
