Just wanted to start a new thread on this ride as it got to be 2 rides in the other thread.
So, as the title states, this is going to be the more aggressive ride.
That doesn't mean we're going to do 800kms of swamp, but its not going to be all backroads and Latte's either. [-X

    Details are:
Fri July 25 - arrive just south of Bancroft at a private cottage to get prepped for the ride, bench race, have a beer…

Sat July 26 - eat a massive breakfast (might be our last meal) and head out for an adventure...
Pembroke is our first night's destination

Sun July 27 - another big breakfast, maybe wheel bearings for Brian's BRP and head out...
Bondfield area will be the next night's destination

Mon July 28 - lots of eats again, start an Advil I/V drip, stock up and head out…
Huntsville/Dwight area is where we want to be at night fall

Tues July 29 - a final feed, pack up and head back to the cottage south of Bancroft...
hoping to arrive at a decent time to clean up, load up, and head south for home

Distances between gas is about 200Km.
Carry tools, gas and parts necessary for your bike. Know how to use said tools and change flats etc
NO CHASE TRUCK. Bring clothes for night time and anything else you need…but it has to fit on your bike.
Ride Master, Brian Helliwell, will be handling the GPS duties and will have routes planned.
Brian is also pre-booking rooms and would appreciate some deposits early to cover his costs and to know that you are committed to going.
From an earlier meeting it would seem there are 10 or so interested in this ride. Thats a big group but numbers may dwindle as we get closer to the ride date and more people learn about Brian's penchant for water

This is a rain or shine, hell or high-water ride thru a beautiful and rugged northern Ontario area. You just need to decide if its for you.

    more details will follow…

Updated May 12 - locations for overnight stay

Guess that sounds a bit weird now that I read it. #-o
Bring what you want Bruce, as long as everything fits on your bike.

    Edited original post.

Brings on a whole new meaning for 'Dualsporting - aggressive ride'........

Alex, better pre-order up a set of sprockets as well......

Guys should bring something tasty to BBQ on Friday at the cottage if they get there early enough.

ARP - looks like a great ride planned!

With the DC in June and CRC in August - don't think I'll be able to sneak away for that long - but looks very tempting!

Looking forward to watching the thread and ride report - ride safe and dry!

    This sounds amazing.
What are the chances that I could get away with just using a green plate for this ride.
I have been riding for a long time. But I just joined the oftr so I can get involved in rides just like this.

Alex, how much pavement should we expect?

Well, I'd say none. We are going through towns to get to motels and have to take the highway sometimes. Blue Plate is a must.

The intent is to keep pavement to a minimum. That said there are trips into town for motels, gas etc that require pavement.
Also, in the event of bike failure, or injury we might need to get on the highway.

I just wanted to update on numbers.
We have 10 people interested in this ride. That is the max that we want to go with.
It is very difficult to accommodate bigger numbers. Brian has made advanced reservations at 2 motels so far and is confirming the 3rd. Even then, we will need cots or some are sleeping on the floor as one motel only has 4 rooms available.
This is no frills riding. We don't search out expensive hotels with hot tubs and full service restaurant/bar. All we look for is a dry room and a hot shower. The thrill is the outdoors and the journey.

However, I would make a shameless plug for the 2 Day Algonquin Ride that is part of the OFTR Trail Ride Series. I believe that it is June 14/15 this year. Check the OFTR website at http://oftr.ca/trail-ride-series-c66.php
It is green plate friendly, arrowed, meals included and has accommodations usually right where the ride starts/ends. They also have sweep riders if you have trouble.
I have done this ride. It is a fantastic ride, even in the rain!
Anyone that feels they want to try multi-day rides or experience the north, this is a perfect way to get into that type of riding. It fits those that have green plates, shorter fuel range, limited cargo capacity on their bike, limited navigational skills, it does it all!
There are main routes for all to follow and "Special test" sections, if you will, to challenge even the very experienced riders so don't worry about finding the type of terrain you like. Its all there.

I can't add much to what Alex has said. I do have rooms booked for two nights and working on the third.

I have 5 rooms booked at the Hillside Inn in Pembroke, http://www.hillsideinn.ca/. Alex and I stayed here on our RAP ride in 2010.

The second night will be in Bonfield at the Dinner Bell Restaurant and Motel, http://www.dinnerbellbonfield.ca/ . Bonfield is a little further along the trail than Mattawa and should work out fine. There are only four rooms available and reserved them all. They will have a couple roll-away beds for us if we need them. It seems like its Voyageur Days in Mattawa the weekend we'll be up there and pretty much everything is already booked.

I still have to book the last night. As Alex has mentioned I'm thinking somewhere between Huntsville and Dwight. I hope to have this done sometime this week.

Just booked us into the Super 8 Motel in Huntsville, http://www.super8.com/hotels/ontario/hu ... l-overview . Booked through Expedia. The Super 8 was by quite a bit the least expensive place in the area. We'll have 5 rooms again here. Huntsville works nicely into the route as the trails come fairly close to town on both sides.

All three nights are now booked.

If spot becomes available I can commit to this ride... I like the minimalistic ways, but will switch to appropriate clothing for night time :D

We're maxed out at 10 right now but we will have a meeting closer to departure date (thinking July 5) to see who is in for sure.

How'd the meeting go? I would be very very interested and would be fine with sleeping on the floor in minimal clothing
