I will be at an OTC Board meeting on Saturday and need some people to help out on Rainbow Valley Road just east of Hwy #27. My bike is in the shop so Sunday would be great as well. I can also give you trail directions from anywhere and a map.

There is a forest on the left about 3 kms in where riders exit and then go east on the road which then turns left (north) onto baseline road.

The job involves advising riders to slow down and be quiet on this road as the resident are complaining about the excessive noise and riders tearing up the road surface.

Even a couple of hours would be great. I short report would also help.

Contact me of you can do it.

    Thanks,

    Ken

    Volunteer Simcoe Patrols

On Sunday May 7, a group of 3 DRZ'S were out for a ride in the Simcoe County Forest.

jferris (John), KLX Mark, and DRZ Don headed out around 1.

Although we did not go out as an official patrol, we did have occasion to speak with a number of off road riders. Most of the 2 wheelers that we saw or spoke with did have off road plates attached to their bikes.

As we came out of one of the snowmobile trails towards Elmvale, a marked OPP cruiser was parked at the entrance / exit waiting for bikes.

We were asked for out ownerships, insurance cards and drivers licences, he was finished with us in under 2 minutes and we were on our way.

He did appear to be a little surprised that all of us had street plates on our bikes.

Just as we were ready to leave, an older Yamaha IT with a street plate pulled up, he clearly was missing items that would be required to accuire a street plate..... he to was gone in under 2 minutes.

All in all it was a good day on the trails untill the KLX snapped the chain... learned a lesson ... pack a master link and a chain breaker ....

On this day the 2 wheelers out numbered the ATV's....

Did you mention to the OPP that you were 'patrolling' as well ? Any comments from him ?
Funny, the only bike I've even had a chain problem with, was breaking a chain plate on my old KLX too. I think a small rock found its way in between the chain & sprocket, chipping a tooth in the process. Luckily with so little power I was able to ride out some tricky terrain with only one side plate holding it together.

    Simcoe County

3 of us were in Simcoe County, Sunday, as well.
We were approached 2 separate times, by riders asking if we were aware of ongoing issues etc.
In turn, we approached 2 sets of ATV'ers who were looking @ Ken's posters.
I don't think it will be long, before everyone knows what is going on.
    The word is getting out.

P.S. The only (too) loud bike we heard (saw) was a stock CRF 450.
Man those things are noisy... although the owner didjn't think so...

    Great job by all!

I have heard from 4 sepaerate groups that were out on Sunday and have reports.

There is apparently a home made sign suggesting a $5000 fine for tresspassing on the road allowance. I will call the County tomorrow.

Keep up the patrols until I can get co-ordinated with the OFATV for alternate weekends.

I need short reports, with times and where you were and how many vehicles you encountered sent to me at khoeverman@rogers.com

Lots going on in other areas, big meeting at the MTO today as well.

Stay tuned for the mext OFTR newsletter and keep those donations coming!

    Just an informal report here.

I was up at Hodson tract in Bradford last night for a walk with the family and we came across an unlicensed, mid-‘70s XL250 with two people aboard. Neither had helmets and the rider would not stop to talk. They came across Hwy. 400 and entered the tract through the main entrance on #11 side road.

What a great pair of ambassadors for our sport. I heard one of the mountain bikers there comment “Assholes”. I tend to agree

Although there are signs at various other points stating that motorized vehicles are prohibited, there is no such sign at the main entrance.

Ken, do you have a list of the tracts where motorized vehicles are allowed or prohibited? It would be interesting to see, via foot patrols, how many folks are directly breaking the law. Those cases will really hurt us.
