Membership Important changes for 2006 ODSC/OFTR Membership; At the ODSC annual general meeting in March 2005 the membership voted making an Ontario Federation of Trail Riders membership mandatory for ODSC membership beginning in 2006. The new fee structure for 2006 will be; All memberships will still expire December 31st. The purpose of doing this is to create a Provincial off-road motorcycle umbrella group with enough membership and enough strength so that we are able to gain the recognition and results we need. As we begin to build this umbrella organization the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders(OFTR) will change it's name to the Ontario Federation of Off-Road Motorcyclists(OFORM). OFORM has a broader mandate than the OFTR, and will include land use issues, club support, event support and promotion, marketing and promoting off-road motorcycling. Basically everything we need to do to manage and grow the sport. Your OFTR membership for 2006 will include a monthly subscription in Inside Motorcycles, a great Canadian magazine with lots of local content. The magazine comes with an OFTR page which has updates on off-road issues around the Province. For 2006 we hope to be able to distribute entry forms for all trail ride, enduro and hare scramble events through the magazine. This will be a great way to attract new event participants and will save the clubs quite a few bucks. The Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada is in the process of acquiring general liability insurance which would distributed to off-road riders in Ontario through the OFTR. This insurance will have the potential to open gates to new riding areas. The steps we are taking now , along with the Great Pine Trail Riders who are doing the same thing, are the first of many that we must take to ensure that we can continue to enjoy our sport in the future. Change is a difficult process but is worthwhile. We hope that every member will continue to support the ODSC and off-road riding in 2006 as you have done in 2005. Other than our annual Dual Sport Ride for Sight event there is no additional charges relating to club events. Memberships include a membership card, a membership decal for your bike and a decal with the club logo. All rides and events are organized through the ODSC mailing list/forum. It is the members responsibility to make sure they are on the list. There is no charge for being on the mailing list or using the forum. You will only need to become a member once you begin participating in events.
