    Hello All,

I'm relatively new to dual sport, trail riding and the area in general and have been looking for places to explore not too far from the Uxbridge area. I ride single track so I've been to Ganny, Simcoe forest and the Weslemkoon lake area but also I ride a bigger adventure bike that although I'd give it a go on single track.... most is just too tight and I'd probably spend most of the time wrestling the bike rather than enjoying the ride. So I've been looking for other less technical areas more suitable for an adventure bike but find it hard to find trails/routes and figure out some of regulations in the areas that I've stumbled across. I had hoped to join some of the group rides this spring to meet others and find rides but we all know how that's worked out :(

Last weekend I rode over Hogsback Road then up to Kirkfield and spent some time on Wylie and Alvar Road (looked to be some fun ATV trails heading into the woods, tracked down a few but wasn't sure what the land use regulations were so circled back) and yesterday I ran up and down Boundary Road and then headed into the sand dunes. I think the kids on dirt bikes thought I was a bit out of my mind and too be honest began to wonder the same :( I'm sure they had a bit of a laugh watching me negotiate some of the deeper stuff on the big bike, but I wasn't too concerned with form, just having total blast... One thing I thought was a bit odd though is that there were no signs heading east from Coates Road regarding use (beside it being an unmaintained road) but when I popped out the other end on Scugog Townline there was a sign indicating no ATV or motorcycles within the road allowance on Boundary?

I was looking at the Hastings Heritage Trail and it looks like it's approved for ATV's but there is no mention of 2 wheelers? And I can't really find any threads here discussing it either. Anyway, I'd love to hear recommendations or shared routes and tracks from others suitable for adventure bikes, many thanks.

All of Boundary Rd. is fair game with a blue plate as well as most of the roads that lead off of it. The no go zone is the Durham East Conservation Area, which is likely where you saw the posted signs and the "sand dunes" that you were riding aka. Raglan Pits (Owned by LeFarge). The Raglan pits area is only very occasionally patrolled by DRPS but the conservation area is definitely patrolled on long weekends and occasionally at all other times.

Ah, that makes more sense.... and as I posted my comments I realized my use of "dunes" was a bit generous and wondered if it might be an old pit of some sort, though I was a bit surprised by the number of ATVs and bikes riding in given that I couldn't find any info online regarding it being a "sanctioned" riding area. Good info to know, thank you.

Do you have a GPS unit? If so I have quite a few old tracks including a few of the areas you mentioned. You would have to use your own discretion whether they're suitable for an adventure bike, it's been at least 5 years since I've ridden anything out that way. Even without a GPS you could load them into Google Earth and either make a map or mental route.

Pm me if you want the files.

There are 2 sand pits: 1 close to the Oshawa gun club (a little bit east of Coates rd) - I know this one is illegal to go, but the second one around the Durham east conservation area: I usually get on that sand pit by following 'Mountjoy road' until I am there. I never saw any sign that says it is illegal to be there. So it is off limit?

Hello dean.f, I do have a GPS, bought it as I was supposed to be heading to New Mexico later this summer and had planned to run back up to Canada via the Colorado and Idaho BDR and leave my bike in Calgary for the winter but those plans have largely been nixed. I do plan to collect varies tracks over the summer and of course will be happy to share, thank you for the offer to share them, I'll pm you to discuss further.

I did manage to get up to the SCORRA trails, excuse for the trip was to visit my brother... outdoors and observing physical distancing, he lives right across the road from one of the entrances. Was a whole different experience on an adventure bike but nonetheless non-stop fun :)

That pit is what the locals call "Test Hill" and there are literally 30 different ways to get in there. Most of the access is signed no trespassing including Mountjoy if you are coming from the east (not sure about western access). Technically I think blue plates are legal, but DRPS are not generally known for their discretion on the finer points, so I haven't tested that theory. It is within a conservation area so the road allowance is probably no longer controlled by the Highway Traffic Act in that section, so beware and make sure you have a good story if you go there to play

Hello Gang, New to the boards. I would like to chime in on some trails I just found. Ride East on Columbus Rd. till the pavement ends. Enter the doubletrack behind Mosport.

Hi there Bumble. Welcome back to the sport
If you follow that track to the north and cross over Cty Rd. 20, you'll eventually hit a nice little hill climb that will hook up with Sandy Hook Rd. at the top. (Watch out for the muddy ruts at the bottom of the hill, they took me out last week and I'm still limping a bit!)
