I was pretty sure that the injector on my 690 wasn't performing as it should. I called around and wasn't having much luck finding someone to properly clean and test the injector. I came up with a guy in Fergus .... RK engines. He does injectors, builds race engines, has the proper equipment and test rigs to check flow and spray pattern. According to him the injector was very plugged and was dripping fuel , not really spraying. I just thought I would post this for anyone else having injector issues and needing to find someone to service them.
Chef - did you ever try to clean it out by reversing inlet/outlet before taking it in or was it too plugged?
No I didn't . The bike had some starting issues and idling issues. I have the bike apart for maintenance and upgrades but I want to make sure I get everything set up right. Wanted a proper clean and analysis of the spray pattern. I suspected it was leaking also, so I had it pressure tested.
160.00 plus hst. to replace or 25.00 to clean an injector with 17,000 km on it? The injector wasn't atomizing the fuel...more like dripping it out. The spray pattern is excellent now. He had the equipment to check it. I'll know more when I get it all back together. But, I suspect the issues will be gone. Btw, the 690 injector is the same as a gsxr1000 according to him.
Nice tip. I cleaned the injectors of a car once at a friends garage that had a home made rig using a small levered hand pump and a hose to connect the injector. It had a spitting spray pattern but with 2 pumps of the handle with come good carb/injector cleaner they sprayed and ran like new again. Saved $400+. In that case the injectors had some high mileage carbon or other buildup, not a bit of debris causing an obstruction.
Probably time for one of those inlet filters bags for the tank. I have one in my sled. Its a net filter bag that goes in through the filler neck and captures 99% of the crap in the fuel. Easy to pull out and clean once and a while. http://www.crfstuff.com/spfufiforktm.html
