Hi guys, Quick question about the ride for Dad, how hardcore off-road will it get? I'd love to participate, but on my road bike (not dual purpose). I have no issues with gravel/dirt roads, but I also don't want to show up to an event I obviously cannot participate in. Thanks in advance.
I will probably help create this year's route again riding a V-Strom that's much more of a street bike than dirt bike. FYI, BMA also does a trail version of the ride-for-dad ride on June 5 that you absolutely can not do on a street bike. The scenic dual-sport route, June 4, will be all gravel and paved but there could could be short sections of sand or mud, and there could be a rock or two to go around. I will try to minimize these obstacles but I can't always eliminate them. Sometimes the route is all planned and ready to go and then a grader goes and loosens up the surface for us and it is like riding on marbles for a few weeks until enough traffic passes to pack it down again. If you are OK on a freshly graded gravel road then you will be fine on this ride.
