What's the big-bike route like? I want to do the single track, but I have some friends who only have 800-1000cc bikes and don't really want to get into anything too deep. Is the big bike route mostly gravel? Any paved sections?

    Great question.

The big bike/Dual Sport Route consists of forest access roads, as well as gravel and paved road. There is only one short easy section of fairly open single track on the route

Everyone will start out following the main route (orange). Big bikes will take all green options, which come back to the main route only via a shorter two track. Others can take them as gas, time and energy dictates. Dual Sport/Big bikes have a morning (45km) and an afternoon option (15km) just for them which takes you off the main route to other properties, again just road/gravel/forest access road.

Printed route maps will be provided at registration, so you could for example do the first big section of single track, and meet up with your buddies again where the main (orange) and green route come back together.

I'm new to the dual sport scene and am wondering what you class as "aggressive"?? I ride a klx250s and I wouldn't say anything about it is aggressive, but its not a 10 tonne beemer either. Would you recommend the dual sport or trail ride option?

You could easily take it on any of the single track. I'd suggest doing the trail ride and skipping any sections as needed......

Trail ride shouldn't be a problem for you. Having fully knobby tires and solid wrap around handguards will raise the enjoyment factor considerably.

Would you call this a "full knobby" ? The manufacturer calls this a 50/50 tire. I have great fears of inadequacy. :)

    Pgagy-

You can get thru the trails with those tires, but they are 50/50, so won't work in the sandy loam as well as a full DOT knobby......

last year a guy did the whole ride on a DRZ400SM with super moto tires. Its very dry in the simcoe forest and the trails are nice even single track in most cases. You will be fine with those tires. Take your time and enjoy the surroundings. Keep your feet up as there is a lot of stumps in some places. It a great ride!

I ran across this video in the ADV rider forum's CRF250L thread - relative newbie on the same tires as mine, just way more worn out. Terrain looks like fun too. Pay no attention to the fact that the bike is on its side :) It wasn't the tire's fault.

If you were thinking of going to the Midhurst Trailride but have no one to ride with, we are going to have a group of solo riders meeting at the OFTR tent. Come out and join us. Look for the orange safety vests and the volunteers will point out where you need to go.

Does anyone know a average time people finish the ride in the afternoon? I'm almost three hours to get home, and have to work Monday...

An average is hard to say. Some finish in 5 hrs some 7. Really depends on how much you stop, how long you hang around at lunch, and which options you ride

There are lots of arrowed bypasses so if you find its getting on in the day you simply take all the greens. If you get to lunch and have had enough easy bail back to start. The participants map helps make all this clear

Hello, Also new to dual sport riding. Got a DRZ400S with Pirelli Scorpion MT 90 tires. Think I'm pushing it to do the dual sport ride?[IMG]
