2018 Organized Ride Calendar

With all the excitement (i.e. burden) of the AGM and the lawsuit settlement, as well as some family matters, I neglected to publish the "official" 2018 ODSC Organized Ride calendar. As usual, some dates may change due to unforeseen circumstances, like the continuation of an endless winter or leader availability, but it's a start. Mark your calendars, hopefully we will get riding soon...

Is the ride this weekend still on?

Sorry Vellies, but we had problems finding someone to organise & lead the steel bridges tour. The ride will happen but at a later date, TBD.

Chris - I'm thinking of doing a "pre-ride" on Saturday to check out this unfamiliar (to me) area.

No problem at all guys. I landed on my ribcage this past weekend at the Rally Connex event, so still in a great deal of pain. Bob, can I get back to you on Friday. If I have recovered sufficiently to get the bike off the trailer I would love to tag along for that pre-ride on Saturday.

I'm taking family to the airport on Saturday, at a time not yet revealed to me. If you can share the route I might be able to pre-ride as well (solo).

There isn't a 2018 route that I'm aware of. I looked at the 2016 and 2017 Routes and thought I'd check out them and surrounding backroads. I was on the SW part of the 2017 route on Tuesday and several sections had Road Closed signs.

Weather is looking good for Saturday so my ride may not happen.

I pre-rode the 401 between Cambridge and Mississauga yesterday. All clear of fallen trees.

I rode the 2017 Steel Bridges tour yesterday... and sorry I didn't post a ride up as it was a last minute decision so no time to post and wait.

At least three or four of the bridges are closed, but a couple of them are still passable if you have a skinny bike. My DRZ made it between the gap of the concrete barriers. These were the bridges West of New Dundee over the Nith River -- if you have side cases, you'd need to remove them. The one bridge near Bleams Road at New Hamburg had no gap and couldn't be crossed. Also one off shoot between Paris and Glen Morris was a no go as there was a big yellow gate blocking the road... no go around needed for that though, as it just appears to be a stopping point.

Did you ride on pave roads or dirt roads

Some gravel, but also a lot of pavement. That area is very developed so gravel is getting hard to come by.

Can you please post up the gpx file of this ride? Didn't have everything out of storage at that stage and ready to go now! Cheers . A

It should still be available under the GPS files section (can't confirm, as I no longer have access)

Anyway, I have attached the one I have. As stated though, you will need to deviate a bit from it.
