Ever thought that falling off the bike on grass will at the very lest give you a soft landing? Well you might have to think again. Did the recent Bruce trail ride with Achilleas, Rudy, Michel, John and Tim. Basically, during the ride just b4 we entered Port Elgin, I made to cross the grass onto the other path as there were overhanging branches to my left (Pic 1). Well at that precise moment, my rear wheel locked. I thought of grabing one of the branches and letting go of the bike.. You know.. Like in the movies. In any case, i soon realized that the decision had already been made for me. Like a loyal master, i had followed my steed to the ground. I looked up and the sky was beautiful blue. I must be floating up to heaven but why do i still hear my motorbike reving away? A body appears above me with a helmet on.... Opens the visor and Yikes!!!! Its Rudy. Illusions busted, i focus on my immidiate reality and take stock of damage. Busted ankle..ok..painful ankle and a few fairings. Thank goodness no mirrors this time. I notice my chain is off and the bike is drenched in oil at the left side . (Pic 2) Michel helps to get chain on whilst i rest my ankle. You should have stayed with the KLR Don...I am thinking he is thinking. Chain back on and i crank the bike on. SHUT IT DOWN!!!SHUT IT DOWN!!! Michel yells. Now i am definately sure that i am correct about what he is thinking. I shut the bike off and he informs me that my bike was loosing a lot of oil from the left side. Decided to get CAA to tow the bike back home and that will be the end of my drama. No such luck. We were not far from Bruce Road 4 so with the help of all, we got my bike to the road and called CAA. CAA duly informed me that the will tow my bike back to my home but i will have to figure out how i will get home. Of course i can spell. Yes, They informed me that they will take my bike home and i was to make my own way back. When i got my bike and after all this period of abusing it, i never thought she will become more worthy of recue than myself. Does the fact that I paid money for the bike count for anything at all? Pic 3: Waiting for CAA Location confirmed. Called at 2. 15pm and my ride arrived just a few ticks b4 5.pm. Yes my ride. I had to get HRH to come get me. She had driven 168 kilometers to get me. My 10 year old son was in tow. (Dad...Dad.... He yells to me as his Mum pulls alongside me. YOU GOTTA STOP FALLING OF THE BIKE OK? I AM AFRAID YOUR GONNA Bust SOMETHING!! I knew she has been talking with him. Poor kid bored from driving for2 hours. Pic 4: Bike is home thankfully and so am i. Caa driver was shocked i got back b4 him. Pic 5-7: Took bike apart and this is what i found initially. Pic 8-11: Further exploring today revealed the feeble utterance of HELP ME SOMEBODY. What am i looking at?. Can this be repaired? How? Where? Not sure if JB weld will work here as this borken part seemed presurized. The part moves so i assume it is replacable if i can identify it. Any ideas what to do about the bolt hole that has sheared? And yes do mind the grass. I am exploring some action against whomever put the grass there. I know the Municipality is responsible for the rocks but they already put a disclaimer that i had stopped to read before the ride. I am sure you by now have concluded just like i did that this does not in anyway speak to my skill level. But for the grass....I may have continued riding not realising the crack untill my engine shut down or i get fried by engine oil. How was your week gents?
Oh Don.. glad you are okay and the ankle heals quickly. I was impressed with your skills given that front tire of yours. Looked more like a road tire to me. Hope ya heal QUICK!!! Wish I'd seen the post about going in time, may have joined, and or let you know my contact info.. I likely could have grabbed the trailer and got you and the bike home. I'm in Wingham, smack dab in the middle of where you broke down and Cambridge.
Sorry to hear about your tumble....that grass can catch anyone. Hopefully you recover quickly and the bike as well.

It’ pretty straightforward, it is a rail trail after all. We had fun linking it to power lines and one muddy section after the rail trail section. Do be careful on the loose rock sections and the grass in between.
I’m 62 and new to ADV riding. I’m frequently on it with my R1200 GSA. There are some 20KPH sections that I abide by as you’re literally in people’s backyard. Otherwise it’s pretty straight forward Brian
Does the bike have a hydraulic clutch? Looks like a clutch slave cylinder. Looks like something got in your chain and pushed it up into the case. Prob what broke it. You said the rear locked up. Edit Changing my answer. Speed sensor. Check a parts fiche and look at the engine covers section

Ok Gents.. I need you warn you guys to stay away from my affairs. Someone told my wife that my bike was not repairable. Well.. What happened was...... I dropped the bike off at the garage. The owner was not open yet so i left the keys behind. He promised to fix my bike by the following friday. On friday he calls but leaves a message as i was unable to take his call. The message he left simply said... Don.. I know i promised but i can't fix it. HRH gets the message before i got home. As i walked in, She announces the news to me. She ended with " Since you have not been riding the Honda, i am thinking you should just replace the bike instead of sourcing parts" Yessss!!!! You are reading right. This time..it is a VStrom. Pics to come. Guy calls again 3 days later. Speaks to HRH. He was sorry as he got too busy to fix my bike but he will try to get the parts this week. Only problen is....I was away picking up the new bike. What a calamity eh? What can a rider do at this point eh? Lesson being..... Sometimes it pays to fallalot. Ride safe.
But I thought your garage was already full?? The answer is clear: you need more garage space now to admire the motorbike collection.
