    Hey everyone,

I was just checking out the CAA website wondering if they would cover motorcycles and guess what, they do! So I signed up for the CAA Plus membership which includes the following.

    Towing: 200km
    2 trucks if needed
    Free gas & delivery
    Trip Travel Insurance: $500,000
    Lockout Service: $100
Specialized Towing Equipment: No charge if required
    Alternate Service Reimbursement: Specific limits

I could of used this last year when I got a flat tire on bayfield street, nothing like lifting a 300lb plus bike into the back of a full size 4x4 pickup with no ramp. I believe it covers you and the vehicle your in, so if your crusing around in your 84 Honda and it breaks down your covered. (I think, not 100% sure. Anyone know?)

Just thought I would pass along the info!

I used CAA to get my bike hauled out of trouble just last weekend and last November to get my car towed out of a really, really remote area.

If I had to pay for those tows, it would have easily been $200 each.

One thing, though. I don't know if people know this, but CAA's call centre staff are currently on strike. If you call the CAA , you're now getting routed to a call centre in Virginia I think where people understand local geography about as well as a 2 foot lenth of 2X4 might understand it. They gave me a hassle about not having 'RV' coverage (which you need in the US for a Motorcycle).

    CAA

I had coverage once and I was riding in a vehicle that got stuck in mud within site of the road. Long walk to phone the tow truck and when they got there they were reluctant to extend a winch cable unless I also paid them $40. I told him to stick it and repeated my walk. The next truck did the same thing claiming CAA did not compensate them well enough. So then a passing farmer with a tractor solved my problem. This was the last time I purchased CAA coverage. The point is you will still have to push your bike to a convenient pick-up spot for them.
Probably good for road rides but I would evaluate how much dual sport time I spend out of the woods.

Yeah, I think it would be a reaonable expectation that you would get your bike to a road/driveway as CAA is really set up for cars on roads/driveways/parking lots, etc. The CAA contractors get a flat rate for the tow, a per km charge and a flat rate for the use of 'special equipment' i.e. flatbed, tiedows, winch, etc. Once you get outside the GTA or bigger places like Hamilton/Ottawa/London, most calls are dispatched to towing company contractors, affilliated with CAA.

    I wouldn't go 'off-road' with a tow truck either, unless i was well-compensated.

Hey Kris...the membership is personal, not per vehicle, so it doesn't matter if you're driving your 17 year old cousin's scrap-heap, they will still help you out, however I think you're limited to 4 or 5 service calls a year.

I'd reccomend you get the 'plus' otherwise you get towed to the nearest garage, not necessarily home or where you want to go.

And +RV (The RV coverage can only come after the "+" I believe) will also cover trailers... up to quite a large size I believe). This can be usefull...

Yeah, that's the only bummer. There's no Sunoco, Husky, UPI or Mohawk that takes the CAA card within a 1 1/2 hour drive of here. There used to be a lone Sunoco in downtown North Bay, but when they had to replace the underground tank they closed it about a year and a half ago

I only get to swipe my CAA card when I'm travelling and even then, I think I only got a couple of buicks knocked off the membership. When I lived in London and was travelling a lot, I used to get my CAA membership for something like $8 a year.

    Gotta Love CAA

I had a crank seize  during the Stoufville/ Bethany Ride (now the Skytop/Bethany Ride). We towed the bike out to HWY35 just north of the Ganny(never ride alone) called CAA. They flat beded the bike back to Newmarket, no charge. :p I hate to think what that would have cost.
