After watching some BMX trials on youtube, I'm thinking of getting a BMX. Yes, 36 years old and wanting a BMX. If you (or your 14 year old kid) is into enough to advise of the different types of BMX and trials bikes, PM me please. Check this out and see if you don't get inspired. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw
A trials bike and bmx are complete different bikes . What he is riding is a trials bike and there is a canadian company that sells good ones out of toronto . They don't have a seat and are very specific in use . There is also the type used by Ryan Leach that has a seat and is like a small cross country bike . They are made by norco . The basics you can learn on any bike such as track stands and then some rear wheel control (hopping on the back tire) Brakes on trials bikes have to be very good alot of riders use hydraulic rim brakes by magaura . Lately I've seen some disc but you have to remember that the stopping power has to transfer from the disc to the hub then to the rim and the old ones use to shear the bolts off the disc . I'm a little rusty but if you are in the area I can show you some basics . At 45 it takes a few runs to get on a small picnic table.
http://www.metabike.com/trials.html You won't find one much cheaper new if the price is the same. good luck
Where do you live bford??? Thanks for the info but I'm probably looking to get something like this. It should get me a good mix of styles. I used to race bmx and do a little flatland. Many MANY years ago. http://www.redlinebicycles.com/archives ... ght-pro-24
That would be a good one, although it lacks the almost 1:1 gearing of a real trials bike, it has the low seat height for trackstands. I have the Meta Mod 360. Bought it used off some kid in Mississaugauagaga. I've ordered stuff from these guys and got it within a few days. http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/ You can get the Onza line here in Canada from these guys also. They are in Calgary. http://www.oddbike.ca/
I pulled a BMX bike out of the garbage two years ago, and started practicing my wheelies this summer. I got to doing 1/4mile long wheelies again (after 25 year long of not riding BMX). Fun bikes. My bike is pink and has a seat not so nice as the ones you are looking into. 8-[ But still is fun. Oh and my knees started to hurt me I think it is from all that pedal pushing.
Sean, I don't mean to be negative, but I hope you are not going to try anything like in that vid!
I've still got my SE Quadangle and Floval Flyer in the garage from the BMX racing days. I still take the 24" Floval Flyer out now and again and am proud to say I can catwalk it for almost as long as I want. Can't wheelie a dirtbike worth crap though  oh well... to be young again. Get a bike and get out there Husaberger! If not for yourself, but for all the other "overager", underachieving posers out there.
Tony only pops ups when you least expect him. He's the new 'interntional man of mystery'! Stand aside Mr. Powers, it's all Wong form here onI
I live in lucan and without the brakes of a trial bike you will be doing more skatepark style of riding which is not bad just different. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F7z4HxpWfA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4K3w7zfyrL0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGXwiAO57Jg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z1fSpZNXhU
Floval Flyer! That's one of the ones I was looking at. But I found a sweet Intense Pro 24" for a good deal and mint condition. Wifey put the axe on the budget last night. Crap - ALL MARRIED MEN READ THIS. Don't ever ask for permission!!! Just buy it and tell her after. I did that with a $7000 KTM and all as good. But ask for $250 to buy a BMX bike and you get "NO! It's almost Christmas. What are you going to sell to get that money. Go cut the grass or do something productive". #-o
I try to buy "Canadian" but listen to this. After 24 hours, wifey gives me the green light to pull the trigger. So I do some serious online research. The bike I zeroed in on is $500 USD. I see a closeout for $349 in NY plus free shipping and I'm just about to purchase it online. With taxes it's $377. Then my kid wants an apple and I head downstairs. While he's eating, I must of used a different keyword and another online store comes up. $309, no tax and free shipping! Done and done!! I can't remember the last time the price tag equals what my credit card bill will be. Seriously, no tax and free shipping from Indiana! Wow!
Is it a common theme that when one can Catwalk on the BMX it is hard to do a wheelie on a dirtbike? I think that when one rides a BMX we use a different part of the brain (the young brain, ie we were young when learning catwalks on the BMX). B = Bicycle MX = Motocross B+MX=BMX Next ODSC or OFTR ride in 2011 should include a 15 min BMX warm up ride
