Due to the late winter we have postponed the Bethany Ride 1 week. At this point the roads in the Ganaraska Forest are still completely covered in snow & ice. The committee has been exploring different sections of the route and have found some areas impassable. See below for the details:

Bethany - 2014 On May 3rd, 2014 the Ontario Dual Sport Club proudly presents our annual Spring Kick-off ride: Our plan is a follows: Where: Haugen's Famous Chicken & Ribs Barbeque Restaurant. http://goo.gl/maps/w1N0a The people at Haugen's have graciously allowed us to use their parking lot this year as our staging area. =D> ***Please park on the north side of the building in the gravel area of the parking lot.*** Itinerary: 8:30am - 10:00am Breakfast in Port Perry, get your group together and fill the tank before the ride. 10:00am - 10:15am Registration, Brief riders meeting 10:20am - Staggered start Lunch - Bewdley Rhino Restaurant https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Rh...ata=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xcdf4a5e70059c7fb End - Haugen's - Stop in after the ride for a bite to show our appreciation. Fee: Cost is $10.00 for ODSC Current Members (We will have a current list) $15.00 Non-Members. (Please bring exact change as I won't be carrying any.) Money raised will be donated to the Ganaraska Forest Patrol Fund. Membership Requirement: You do not have to be a member to enjoy this event. ALL ARE WELCOME. Come out and see what the ODSC is all about. Route: The route is just over 200kms of varying terrain. Suitable for most riders with some off-road skills. We are also putting together a Big Bike ride which, consists of paved, gravel and 2 short un-maintained roads sections, more of a scenic ride touring East Central Ontario. Ride in a group as there will be no sweep riders to depend on. Please be respectful of hikers, land owners, other riders and anyone you encounter, being able to enjoy this ride is a privilege not a right. Above all be safe. GOOD LUCK ***Update*** We have added 2 files for the Primary Route, a Garmin format and GPS exchange format. For past participants you will note that we have removed the Post Road track as, the Pri-Ride group encountered disgruntled landowners who were very upset with 3 bikes passing by Post Rd. Please do not venture into this area, we do not want to antagonize these Landowners and face more closures. We have also bypassed the Boundary Road across the top of the Ganaraska Forest as, we encountered complaints last year. I know that both these roads are Municipal but, let's respect these land owners and avoid further closures in Ontario. We will not have a sweep rider at the end so, please ride in a group to ensure everyone makes it. Updated: May 1st, 2014

Good luck and above all be safe. ***Update*** We have added 2 files for the Big Bike Route, this ride is primarily a GPS self-guided route. Re: Bethany - 2014 Hey everybody! New member here. Just signed up yesterday and looking forward to the upcoming season. I've been riding street for a number of years now but have also done the dirt thing for a couple years as well. I missed last years Bethany ride as I bought my enduro in May. Definitely going to ride it this year. I'm also available to do a pre-ride and help out in any way. Thanks!
Re: Bethany - 2014 Hey. Welcome! Thanks for the offer and we'll keep you posted. What are you riding for an enduro?
Re: Bethany - 2014 Hi Laird, I ride a 2009 Husqvarna TE450 for the longer rides that require blue plates. When I do tight singletrack I fire up my '04 YZ250f. I'd like to ad my bikes to my sig but can't figure out how. Any tips? Thanks...
Re: Bethany - 2014 That's a fine selection! To add these you would go to 'User Control Panel, Profile, Edit Signature'. I'm not sure if you're restricted being a limited user. ADMIN EDIT: This function is only available to paid members.
Re: Bethany - 2014 Depending on the weekend, I'd be up for the pre-ride working day too. Need to try the GPS I've had sitting in a box for close to a year sometime. Tom
Re: Bethany - 2014 Looking forward to the ride and available for the pre-ride as well! Could be a good test for what portions of the route do or don't require a 'big-bike' detour(s) as i'm on an 800XC. This will be great early season feeler for conditions to expect at the Gravel Travel's Roaming Rally in early May as well...
Re: Bethany - 2014 You will probably need a life jacket for that with the amount of snow we have had this winter. Any ideas on a date for this? The beagle bash is Easter weekend. I'm thinking it's less than two months away!
Re: Bethany - 2014 Instant classic! Ain't that the truth! Dressing in layers may be a good idea too by the looks of things. :snow: But who knows... We were kicking around the weekend before but that could be wishful thinking. I'll let more experienced hands make that call. There's some great input to the group this year. Gonna be another awesome ride! We should be able to start posting some details soon. +1 forecast for Tuesday. We're on the right side of zero!
Re: Bethany - 2014 We're talking about trying to make it more big bike friendly too with some options. Although I don't recall any issues last year. The Roaming Rally may not be so forgiving! You'll wanna have some fresh knobbies for that! Just be sure you know how to de-water. Our group got lucky last year (even though we did manage to pretty much fully submerge a bike - those DR's are bullet proof  ) but a number of them weren't so lucky. One of those skills you hope you never have to get good at! I'd sure love to find a solution to wet feet. :? I'm seriously thinking about hip waders...ok, not really

Re: Bethany - 2014 I'm hoping to do the Bethany on an 800xc this year too. I've noticed quite a few big bikes doing it in years past. I should be available for pre-riding, GPSing, etc, although I'd prefer not to drown a new bike so the word "option" is nice to hear.
Re: Bethany - 2014 I could be wrong but I'm guessing even these high end boots aren't gonna help when you're waist deep in water.
Re: Bethany - 2014 I rode my Dakar 2 years ago ... The dry year and the bike was a handful. The 800 should be perfect! :eat :eat
