I did some riding today on part of the trails of Bethany 2013 around hwy 35. Other than a few patches of snow which were nothing comparing with two weeks ago, happy to report trails were in awsome conditions. Some deep muddy sections but I remember last year it was worse. The traditional muddy sections have seen dramatic drying up over the last two weeks in particular. In fact, I would say that they are more easily crossed than other years. While this week's rain might bring back some puddles, I wouldn't expect any lakes to cross. The resident beaver are more to blame for the bigger mud and water holes in the northern section of the ride -- and the beaver were not very active this past winter (probably because of the depth of the ice in the streams and local swamps). Hence, the water crossings are NOT deep, maybe 1 foot or slightly more. Every mud hole I have crossed (and I like mud) has had a hard bottom and are relatively short -- the rolling is pretty easy. Nothing this year like the ones in the following vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7az-UD5_EI0 Greg and I farted around a bit on Saturday, and he shot this hogsback vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kbah6ZYZTN4 The small muddy sections you see in this video are often a good foot or more underwater... they are next to dry atm. Towards the end of the video, is a puddle. I have seen this puddle close to 4 feet in depth, and once had to go swimming after my WR426 -- It is nothing like this now, nor will it be come the weekend. I still went around it :mrgreen: and Greg showed off by blitzing the hill. I don't trust this puddle.
This is a silly question but I might as well ask since I am kinda silly anyways. How much time do you think we will actually be riding on the trails for the Bethany ride? Don't include waiting time in the morning, gas stops, lunch and more gas. I'm asking because I want to use my gopro at 1080p, 60fps. That allows me 4 hours and 21 minutes. Is that enough time?
For those Big Bike riders who decide to also do the optional Scarborough to Haugen's morning route, I did part of it last weekend and just wanted to mention that there are large frost heaves on a couple of the roads and occasionally mild ruts as people have gone around them. I didn't really know what they were but I found out that even though they look like cool little jumps, don't ride over them - they can be very soft and deep! No big deal for your average DS rider but just mentioning it for the people on 90/10 street tires, like me, and/or people riding 2-up or bringing noob friends who may get enough adventure on the 285km Big Bike route starting at Haugen's.
Hey Faze Man. Tough question but my guess would be you should have enough to capture the good stuff. As long as you know when it's on or off! The weather network and mother nature are playing with us. I've seen about 17 variations of forecast for Sat in the last two days. All we can do is check tomorrow night and be prepared to get damp. Real damp by the looks of things. :eat

Hey guys. Hoping to make it out. Should be fun regardless of the weather. Anyone bringing a laptop that could load the route onto my 62s? I don't have a computer at the moment. Or, alternatively, apparently you can transmit wirelessly from unit to unit? Who knew! If all else fails, I'll just follow somebody.
I won't have a laptop but will have a Montana 600 with me. I've never done the wireless transfer but recall Dualsport trying it. Can't recall now if it worked or not. I'll have a quick look at some instructions just in case you want to try. Imnothng and I will be in his van with the two Huskies on the trailer. Update - Just had a look and it seems pretty simple depending on what you have.
