having trouble loading my Garmin 76 with a route/tracks someone sent me for an up coming trip. When I try to down load the route to my GPS it says it is trunked. I had this happen once before and someone guided me to change a setting which allowed it to be downloaded. I think it reduced the way points but kept the route. Anyone know what I am talking about?

You don't have enough memory I think to load the routes.
Check to make sure you have no other routes loaded on, if you do delete them all and try to reload new routes.'id clear your track log also .

If that doesn't work - suspect Dualsport will tell you the correct procedure to a T!

If you have to compress the route/waypoint never done that on the Gps before - only on mapsource I think.

If you get a message saying the data was truncated, it means there are too many points in the tracklog. With the 76, each uploaded track can have a maximum of 500 points.

You will need to use a program that reduces the tracklog point count to less than 500 without destroying the integrity of the track. I use Mapsource and go to Track Properties / Filter / Maximum Points=500. You also can only store 10 saved tracks (but you only get the Truncated message for the number of points).

I doubt it's a route that has too many points that's causing your problem. There's not much memory in a 76 (8MB) so you might want to delete old stuff you don't need.

Thanks Bob. I found the old post on another site that walks me through basicly what you said. I actually had deleted all my old tracks to try to make room. I know the old 76 is pretty out dated. Most of my problems started when I got the Backroads Map book program for my GPS. Even that version is discontinued.
