Handlebar Risers

I'm thinking of putting a set of handlebar risers on my Super Sherpa. When standing on the pegs I'm hunched over and not in a very comfortable position. Being rather tall at 6'1" I prefer to stand straight, but when siting on the Sherpa I'm very comfortable.

Is there a handling compromise when riding in the siting position if you have added risers (would seem awkward if the bars are higher)?

Also I see there are different riser heights. How do you know how high to raise the bars or what riser height to choose? :?

Your help would be appreciated.

Hardy, I had the same problem with my klx. I bought a set of pro taper ATV mid bend handlebars they gave me another 2 inches roughly. That was definitely the maximum I could use because of cable lengths. It took a lot of playing around with routing the cables so nothing would bind. However 2 inches was a noticeable improvement and I'm 6' 2"

I never even though about the cables being an issue.

I guess I better have a close look at the Sherpa to see if that's going to be a problem.

What type of risers do you need ? I would consider using a stack of washers so you can to decide on a height. Even a inch will make a big difference. Try some and ride around the farm to get a feel for what height you like. I would not recommend them as a permanent fix though.

Some bikes have the bar clamps cast into the upper triple clamp, so the washer trick doesn't work. Also, moving the bars forward a bit can be helpful. I made some risers from 7/8" keystock when I had my Yamaha 426. They moved the bars up and forward and put the bars in a better position for me (6'3"). I can send a picture if you are interested.

I have used the Roxx risers they sell at Royal on 2 bikes now. I'm 6' tall and find the 2" risers to be about right and the Roxx give you the ability to move the bars forward and back. The only problem I've found is it blocks the speedo, so I have to remove the bar pad to see it. I also tilt my controls way down, so that when you're standing your wrists are at the right angle. This also helps to bring your elbows up when you're sitting.

+1 on all of that. Hardy we're about the same hight and I run Rox. I find that my arms are straighter when seated and that's better. Definitely better when standing. Cables WILL be an issue.

I may have some higher rise bars in my shop. I will take a look and if you can use them they are yours. I believe you dont need the fat bars.Once you get a path cleared for a loop around the farm I'm sure you can get a dozen or so friends to come over.

Randy that's actually kind of funny as I have a complete path cut around the farm property. It even extends over to a good buddy of mine who has a large pond in a valley as the back of our properties connect. The path was originally started for my younger daughter Manny and my buddy's son Taylor who would ride around together on their dirt bikes (they both sold their bikes and now drive cars).

Next time you guys are up this way, I'll take you around and down to the pond. There's a cabin my buddy built down there where we spend winter and summer on the weekends (we like to pound back a few BEERS and hope the wives don't catch us :lol: ).

I bought a set of the rally connex risers, 1", from Kevin Burnett, and have run them on my KTM 450 EXC, they made a world of difference. I have a Scott's steering damper which also raised the bars, combined with the Rally Connex riser, it's been a winner. I'm 5' 11', one of my riding buddies with the same bike is 6' 3", he bought a 2" riser from Kevin, that's also worked great.
