    Hi there.

There is a snowmobile trail (I think it follows the gas line) that runs beside highway 35 in the Ponty Pool area. Does anyone know if green plated bikes are allowed there?

    Thanks.

If the trail is on the actual hwy corridor; ie on the road side of the line fence, it isn't legal to ride a green plated bike there. If it is on the outside of the fence, it would require some looking into.

Yeah, there isn't a fence between the highway and the trail. The farmer's fences are on the other side of the trail. Pity.

    Thanks for the information.

I don't think you will get hassled there. I ride it all the time and have never been stopped. My bike is blue plated but doesn't look street legal from a distance. The police is this area more concerned about people riding on private property and conservation areas. If you stick to the unmaintained roads you will not be questioned.

That is good to know, Blackdog. I have had my blue plated bike out there as well. I see 4-wheelers on there all the time and that doesn't seem to be an issue. I am concerned that they will see my kids on little bikes and then create an issue.

    Thanks for the comment.

It's part of a huge network of trails. You can start at the bottom of Hwy 35 where it joins the 115 and go in all directions. East into to the Gannaraska, North towards Lindsay, West towards Port Perry and South towards Bowmanville.

The trails along the highway can be quite sandy in areas, but they are wide and nice to ride in most places. They do cross people's driveways in many places, so be careful.
