I've been following Yawny's post re the Trans Canada Trail system he has just recently ridden.

I decided to do some exploring on the net and came across this web site, http://tctrail.ca/explore-the-trail/. I'm assuming south of Orilla the trail is not for ORMs, but noticed the trail runs along Couchiching Lake and Rama Rd. The trail also uses many side roads north east of Couchiching Lake.

Does anyone know is it legal to ride an ORM on this part of the trail along Couchiching?

Further north I can see the trail cuts through the bush so I assume there would be no issues riding through there.

Thinking of planning a ride on Trans Canada Trail system starting from Orilla north.

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :)

    Sorry Hardman,
That's pretty much a no go the entire distance around Orillia. I live a few minutes out of town. There is lots of riding in the area, but nothing really to link together except for the SCF. Some of the roads that the TCT uses are quite nice, especially north of Orillia, and there is a lot of riding just north of washago but almost no trails that aren't dead ends. If you want to ride the area, I don't mind showing people around. (any excuse to ride). There are 2 large crown land areas. The Swift Rapids and the Queen Elizabeth Wildlands. Both take about 25-30 kms of road to get there, and both have some pretty nasty trails. Swamps and bedrock, and no real connecting trails.

If you're looking for nice roads through to the north, Coopers Falls Rd is a great route from Washago to Gravenhurst. On the west side of 11 you can take back roads from Orillia up to the south end of Southwood Rd which is a great route. Lots of elevation changes and sharp sand filled corners.

    Thanks for the info.

Is it possible to ride the TCT from Orillia north into Huntsville?

I've ridden a fair bit of the TCT north-west of Hunstville (the Sprucedale area and Sequin trail), but never really thought about the section of trail from Orillia to Huntsville.

Except for the road sections, I'd say it's off limits from Orillia to Gravenhurst, past that I'm not really sure. The rail bed around cooch is definitely out. After that it's mostly roads until coopers falls. The trail out of Coopers Falls I'm pretty sure has the dreaded No Motorized Vehicles sign. I get up there from time to time, and I'll double check the next time I go by. At least the roads it runs by are very nice like Coopers Falls road and Doe lake road. When I only had a street bike it was one of my favorite routes.
